Writing for less money. Is it worth it?

March 25, 2020 By Christina No Comments

Well, after 2007/2008, I pretty much knew that I’d never see $2/word again. Do any of you remember Carrie Bradshaw getting $3/word from Vogue? Outrageous, even for back then! I just agreed to write two pieces for an online media platform for peanuts. I don’t even want to calculate the dollar per word value, because I’ll get bummed out. Instead, I’m choosing to look at these assignments as a great opportunity. I’m reconnecting with a mentor that I really respect and enjoy working with; I’m getting exposed to a new audience of readers who are intelligent and interesting; and I’m keeping my name (my byline) out there. I’ll let you know if the sweat equity was worth it, after they are published. Wish me luck!
